Turban snails

Turban Snails (Turbo spp.) are a reliable and hardworking addition to any marine aquarium, widely appreciated for their ability to control algae and support a clean, balanced environment.

These snails are easily recognised by their solid, rounded shells, often displaying natural tones of green, brown, or grey. Their sturdy build and steady grazing behaviour make them highly effective at removing film algae, diatoms, and other unwanted growth from rockwork, glass, and aquarium décor.

Peaceful and reef-safe, Turban Snails are suitable for most marine and reef setups. They spend the majority of their time moving across surfaces in search of algae, making them a constant and dependable part of any clean-up crew. Due to their strength, they may occasionally shift loose decorations, so it’s best to ensure rockwork and corals are securely positioned.

These snails thrive in established aquariums with plenty of natural algae to graze on. In cleaner systems, they may benefit from occasional supplemental feeding with algae-based foods. As with most invertebrates, stable water conditions and careful acclimation are important for long-term success.
